Beautiful. I sometimes think about times when generations stayed put and what we have lost or gained now that it is much less common. This really touched me.

Thank you, Dana. I agree, I think about this often. I have many models for the longstanding "roots" configuration to a family on both my mom's side and my dad's, as well as in my husband's family. I also have lots of personal experience with what it's like to be the people who leave the family nest. We do give things up when we widen our worlds. But we also gain things that we would never have if we stayed. Maybe neither is better or more valuable, but more a matter of perspective.

“ I wondered if the ghosts of this house and this land haunted him, or kept him company.”

Insightful and resonating piece Brianne!

Thank you for this. I've moved so much in my life, and I just moved recently after having sold a house I thought I'd hold on to for a long time. I'm learning to create "home" and a sense of safety within myself. ❤️

Oh, thank you for commenting and sharing. I think moving can be so hard, so disorienting, and especially when you intended to put down roots someplace but find it's not going to work out as planned. I wish for you a sense of self and safety and home and all good things wherever your stories unfold.
